Animal Crossing: New Horizons May Receive Paid DLC

In the last few days since pre-orders and pre-loads have gone live, Nintendo's Official Website has been updated to include some peculiar information, that may lead to New Horizons receiving some sort of paid DLC in the future.

The theory comes from Nintendo America's website, which states that the game will feature "In-Game Purchases". Some may argue that this is simply their way of saying you'll need a NSO subscription to play online, but if you look at other games that use NSO for online play - Super Mario Odyssey, Monster Hunter: Generations Ultimate and Pokemon: Let's Go - they don't denote any sort of in-game purchase notice, they just separately mention NSO. If you look over at the Splatoon 2Pokemon Sword and Shield, or Luigi's Mansion 3, they either mention they'll have in-game purchases, or have an additional section for paid DLC.

This may not be indicative of anything, but it does seem very odd that they'd include a notice for in-game purchases when they haven't included one for other games that only use the NSO service... Whether this potential paid DLC will simply be a few items, or an actual expansion pass, such as the Welcome amiibo update to New Leaf, is unknown, though we very much doubt Nintendo will start charging for one-off DLC items, especially since a lot of Nintendo's DLC of late have actually been hefty expansions.

As mentioned, this could very well be nothing, but only time will tell. Be sure to follow BidoofCrossing on Twitter and Tumblr to stay up to date with the latest Animal Crossing and Nintendo news!

Update: As of 13/02/2020, the mention of "In-Game Purchases" has been removed.

Update #2: As of 19/02/2020, the mention of “In-Game Purchases” has been ADDED back to the site.
