DEBUNKED: No, Nintendo Didn't Accidentally "Leak" a New Villager in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you've been snooping around the Animal Crossing community in the last 12 hours, you may have seen an image shown off on the website for the latest update, of a villager house that is not present in the current game. Fans went rampant, assuming new villagers were on the way, and Nintendo had either accidentally teased, or leaked these upcoming villagers. Sadly, this has now been debunked. Full details are below.

If you're looking for evidence, simply head over to Nintendo's Japanese site where they've released a statement. From Google translate, it reads as follows:

"Updated on April 27 : Since it was found that the screen shot that introduced the items of "Children's Day" reflected a house with an appearance that could not appear in the actual game, the corresponding screen was replaced. It was. I must sincerely apologize."

Whilst we do believe this to be a genuine error, it is always possible Nintendo slipped up on accident, but we're more inclined to believe this was a goof.  No English statement has been released.

  1. Inb4 they're just trying to cover up the fact they're bringing back the crossover villagers.
